Jay Farrar and Kelly Willis have joined forces for a new album, The Other Bob: A Tribute to Bob Neuwirth, celebrating the music and legacy of the singular songwriter, musician, artist and collaborator whose career intersected with some of the most important figures in American music.
Rather than focusing only on Neuwirth’s best-known work, Farrar and Willis have chosen ten songs that reflect the breadth of his musical life. The collection moves from Neuwirth originals including “Beyond the Blues,” “Rock N Roll Time,” “Turn It Around,” “Nashville,” “Travelin Light,” “Just Like You,” “Busted Bottle” and “Dazzled By Diamonds,” to songs that speak to his remarkable history as a collaborator and interpreter.
Among them is “Mercedes Benz,” the enduring song Neuwirth co-wrote with Janis Joplin and poet Michael McClure, and “We Had It All,” the Donnie Fritts/Troy Seals song that Neuwirth made part of his own repertoire.
The vinyl is hand numbered and limited to 1000 copies.
